Okay, so my worst fears have been confirmed! I’m having a hilarious time here in Crete with four great “old” friends but the xxxxx won’t let me sleep! We’ve taken a villa and haven’t been to bed before 2.30 a.m. any night so far! Talk about women growing old disgracefully! It’s a lovely spot where we are; the surrounding port/villages are so pretty and the food delicious. Beautiful weather too. What more can we ask? Today we’re off on a boat trip to the Island of Spingalonga – which is the Leper Colony Island in Victoria Hislop’s book, “The Island.’ After that we’re having lunch at a village right on the sea called Plaka (prob misspelt). The food here is very cheap for the most part and delicious – last night we had the catch of the day, Grouper, and we had a whole fish between us, simply grilled with vegetables etc., and fabulous meze starters. Yum yum. I’ve also acquired a taste for Greek wine at Eu 2.70 a bottle, which doesn’t give me a headache the next day. Result! This is of course my way of excusing the fact that I’ve hardly written a word of my novel – talk about being seduced by the dark side! Never mind. I’ve been inspired by great company, food and scenery. I’m sure my writing will be prolific when I get home and knuckle down. Hmmm … methinks I’ve heard that somewhere before!
